The 2030 World Challenge: Origins, Format, and What Students Actually Build

The 2030 World Challenge is an eleven-day program in Orlando, Florida for students aged 13 to 17, running January 12 to 22, 2027. Participants use Google's AI tools and Harvard's PAIR framework to design a solution to a real problem in their own community, then pitch it to a panel of judges. Where the name comes from
The 2030 in the title points to the target year of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. When the seventeen goals were adopted in 2015, 2030 was the deadline. UN progress reporting has consistently shown that the world is behind on the majority of those targets, with only a minority on track.
That gap is the premise of the program. The students in our classrooms today will be in their twenties and thirties when the 2030 deadline arrives and the accounting happens. They are the generation that inherits whatever is left undone.
We built the program on a simple belief: young people are capable of leading now, not only after they graduate. Our job is to give them the tools, the framework, and a real audience to lead in front of.
Note on the previous name
This program was previously referred to as the GYC International Forum. It is now called the 2030 World Challenge. Older articles, brochures, and third-party listings may still use the former name. They describe the same program.
The framework behind the curriculum
The curriculum was architected by Google Gemini Certified Educators and is built on Harvard's PAIR framework, which structures how students work with artificial intelligence across four stages:
- Problem. Define the community challenge precisely enough to be solvable.
- AI. Select the right tool for that specific problem rather than defaulting to the most familiar one.
- Interaction. Work with the tool iteratively, treating output as a draft to be interrogated.
- Reflection. Assess what the technology contributed, what it got wrong, and what still required human judgment.
The reflection stage is the one that changes how students think. It forces them to articulate where the tool ended and their own reasoning began, which is the habit that separates a student using AI well from a student using it to avoid thinking.
What students do across the eleven days
The program runs in three phases.
Before travel
Students receive pre-travel academic content and identify the community problem they intend to work on. They arrive in Orlando with a defined challenge rather than spending the first days searching for one.
In Orlando
Academic sessions are paired with structured study of how Disney and Universal build and sustain creative organizations. Students examine how an imaginative concept becomes an operating system, a team, and a business that survives contact with reality. They then apply the PAIR cycle to their own challenge, selecting from Google's AI suite, testing solutions, and refining through repeated feedback.
The pitch
Students present a sustainable business model for their solution, in English, to judges. The pitch is where preparation, evidence, and delivery converge, and it is the moment most students name afterward as the one that changed how they see themselves.

- Creative Entrepreneurial Vision. Business fundamentals and the innovation practices behind Disney and Universal, applied to moving a concept toward a market-ready venture.
- Harvard's PAIR Framework for AI. Defining complex community challenges and breaking them into solvable entrepreneurial opportunities.
- AI Literacy Using Google Technology. Evaluating and selecting the right tool for a specific problem, so the technology extends the student's vision.
- Systems and Design Thinking. A disciplined cycle of experimentation and self-assessment that builds professional resilience.
- Language Mastery and Pitch Delivery. Professional English applied to defending a business model in front of an audience.
Who the program is for
The 2030 World Challenge is designed for students aged 13 to 17 who want to expand beyond classroom learning by studying how world-class organizations operate, while taking on a real challenge in their own community. It suits students with entrepreneurial instincts who want a structured environment and a genuine audience for their ideas.
How students qualify
The World AI Challenge Online is the launchpad for the Orlando program. It is a short online competition for students aged 13 to 16 in which teams identify a community problem, build an AI-powered solution, and pitch it. Participants earn award and scholarship eligibility toward the 2030 World Challenge. The online edition includes training with our academic staff, a training session provided by Full Sail University, an AI panel with working practitioners, and a participation certificate.
Students can also join the Orlando program directly through their school group.
